book-make-it-paleoAlong with a review of a smashing new paleo cookbook, I’ve also got a special announcement to make afterward that is of a personal nature.

But first off, I wanted to tip you off about the soon to be published book, Make it Paleo, authored by Bill Staley and Hayley Mason.

I was fortunate enough to receive an advance copy of their new book, soon after meeting them both at the Ancestral Health Symposium in Los Angeles.

I don’t think you could find a more friendly couple of people. There was a palpable sense of warmness and excitement emanating from these two, that I couldn’t help but feel thrilled for their upcoming book release.

I’ve spent the last couple of weeks paging through the book and trying out some of the recipes, and I’m very happy with what they’ve put together.

The layout and presentation of each recipe is very straight forward and simple. Anybody who might tend to feel intimidated with cooking recipes will have no problem with this book.

They make great use of icons and concise language to help you pick out a doable recipe at just a quick glance. The recipes themselves aren’t overly full of extraneous ingredients, so if you have a sparsely outfitted kitchen you will probably do just fine. A couple of the recipes which I tried out were their portobello turkey burgers and the balsamic rosemary chicken breasts. Both were delightful, to cook and to eat.

Preparing the turkey burgers reminded me of why great cookbooks like these are so indispensable. With the increasing amount of cooking that I’ve been doing at home, I have to admit that I’ve become a little cocky with regard to my culinary skills.

After skimming over the instructions in Make it Paleo I figured this one would be a breeze and set about cooking up our burgers.

However, some funny looks being shared across the dinner table caused me to look back at the recipe and realize that I neglected to sear and cook the mushrooms. Ah, hubris! Even the best cookbook can’t save a fool from himself.

In all, it’s a great book, and I urge you to check it out on Amazon.com or review some more of the sample recipes at their website, Primal-Palate.com. It will go on sale this week, but you can pre-order to make sure you get a copy.

And now a special announcement…

I felt it was only fitting to share this along with my review of Make it Paleo because of the intimacy and closeness that cooking and eating great food seems to bring to Bill and Hayley. It’s inspiring, and I’ve been trying to bring that same kind of feeling into my home, with the meals that we cook and share.

David and Lorien

I wanted to share with you all that on Friday, later this week, I’ll be marrying my longtime friend and fiancée Lorien Eckert. We’ll be sharing our vows before friends and family down near Orlando, Florida at a lovely lakeshore cottage.

I’m incredibly excited about starting this next chapter in our lives, and am thankful that she is so supportive of my writing and crazy projects. It’s going to be a heck of a party this weekend, so you’ll have to bear with me if the blog posts suffer a brief interruption!

On a side note, I wanted to let my readers know that I’m so very thankful for your continued patronage and support for this website. Please know, that if you choose to purchase Make it Paleo, and click-through to Amazon.com from the links on this page (even if to buy a different book or product ) we will receive a small commission in return.

I would be exceedingly grateful if you chose to do so, as it will go a long way towards helping me keep this project going. Thank you all!
