Considering all of the jargon that gets thrown around the Internet on a daily basis when we’re discussing evolutionary health and fitness, I thought it might be helpful to post a list of commonly used acronyms.

This list isn’t authoritative, but I think it includes the terms most likely to show up in paleo-lifestyle related articles.

  • SAD = Standard American diet
  • WAPF = Weston A. Price Foundation
  • IF = Intermittent fasting
  • EPA/DHA = Eicosapentaenoic and docosahexaenoic acid
  • ALA = Alpha-linolenic acid
  • SFA = Saturated fatty acids
  • PUFA = Poly-unsaturated fatty acids
  • MUFA = Mono-unsaturated fatty acids
  • AGE = Advanced glycation end-products
  • CLA = Conjugated linoleic acid
  • CLO = Cod liver oil
  • CVD = Cardio vascular disease
  • CHD = Coronary heart disease
  • HDL = High density lipoprotein
  • LDL = Low density lipoprotein
  • BG = Blood glucose
  • FBG = Fasting blood glucose
  • GF = Gluten free
  • HIT = High intensity training
  • WOD = Workout of the day
  • Metcon = Metabolic conditioning

    Good list thereis one more you can add – FOX = fish oil and exercise.

    For a long time, I had a hell of a problem figuring out what WOE/WOL meant. Might want to include those…(Way of Eating/Way of Life).

    LA….Linoleic Acid
    MetS…Metabolic Syndrome
    T2D….Type 2 Diabetes
    VLDL…Very Low Density Lipoprotein

    also, I might suggest you change HIT to HIIT…High Intensity Interval Training

    There are so many acronyms, I’m glad I found this list I was getitng confused with all the acronyms. SFA was the one I didn’t know.
